The Upper Providence Public Works department will offer free mulch and compost to township residents at the township compost site located on 1094 Longford Road. See seasonal hours of operation at right.

Residents can bring leaves, grass clippings, ornamental stumps, branches (up to 5 inches in diameter), and Christmas trees to be recycled and turned into mulch and compost. You do not need to bag these items, but if you do, only biodegradable bags may be left at the compost site. You may not leave items in plastic bags.

Compost Site is Looking for Leaves!

With the arrival of fall come crispy auburn leaves falling to the ground. Before you bag and put your leaves to the curb, the Upper Providence public compost site consider driving them to the compost facility. Leaves should be separated from all branches, and can be donated in biodegradable bags at the compost site. *Plastic bags will not be accepted.

Leaves are an important component for making a nutrient compost because:

  1. Trees have extensive root systems, and leaves are the recipient of all nutrients gathered from soil.
  2. Leaves are highly fibrous. They improve soil aeration and composition.

Pick Up Free Compost Wednesdays, Saturdays

For now, compost and mulch is free for township residents only, so please bring a photo ID to the compost site. Double shredded wood chip mulch is available. You must load mulch yourself, so bring a shovel or pitchfork and containers to load. The township cannot load.

Recycling Your Christmas Tree is Easy!

After you’ve un-decked your halls, be sure to recycle your Christmas tree into aromatic mulch and nutrient rich compost! Upper Providence is one of many municipalities that offer eco-friendly options for the more than 30 million Christmas trees that Americans unload every year.

Between Dec. 27 and Jan. 31, bring ornament free trees to:

  • The township offices at 1286 Black Rock Road (*During township office hours)
  • The public compost site at 1094 Longford Road (*During listed drop off times)
