By 2035, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission estimates that Upper Providence Township will be home to more than 18,000 jobs and 25,000 residents.
Jobs
After a surge in jobs during the 1990s, job growth is still on the rise in Upper Providence Township. By 2010, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission estimates that 2,505 new jobs will have been created since 2000—that’s 28% job growth, following a staggering 142% increase between 1990 and 2000.
In 2035, it is estimated that Upper Providence will have experienced 100% job growth since 2000, with 8,970 new jobs during the 35-year period.
Some of the world’s most important medical advances come from three of Upper Providence’s (and the world’s) largest employers: Wyeth, GlaxoSmithKline, and Quest Diagnostics. Combined, these companies employ more than 150,000 people worldwide.
Residents
At the same time, population is also expected to increase by 28% to 19,772 in 2010 over 2000. Another 5,815 residents are expected by 2035—surpassing the 25,000-resident mark—a 38% increase since 2000.
Planning
As Upper Providence continues to grow, many dedicated volunteers, led by the township Board of Supervisors work to preserve open space, seek sensible growth plans from developers with help from county planners, and build recreational opportunities for our residents.
