Inspections & Permits


The Department emphasizes the protection of residents' health, safety, and welfare and ensures that all structures comply with the township’s building code and zoning ordinances.

Construction projects must comply with the following codes, which are enforced by the building inspector:
  • Commercial work: The International Building Code, 2009 edition
  • Residential work: The International Residential Code, 2009 edition
Inspections are made between 8:30 a.m. and noon.

Obtain a Permit


Residents must obtain a permit for:
  • Additions or structural alterations
  • Alterations / Renovations and Repairs
  • Barns
  • Burning (recreational fires)
  • Decks
  • Fences
  • Garages
  • Gazebos
  • In-ground and above ground pools
  • New buildings and homes
  • Patios with footers
  • Roofing
  • Sheds
  • Yard sales
Residents should display permits in a front window throughout construction and should call for an inspection 24 hours in advance. Download permit forms.
