Compost Site

Location & Restrictions

The Compost Site is located at 1094 Longford Road, Phoenixville, PA.  The site is open to Upper Providence Township residents only (ID must be presented to register).  Residents are responsible to unload their own vehicles. 

We will accept grass clippings, leaves, shrubbery trimmings, sticks, tree limbs, ornamental shrubbery and dirt-free stumps.  See below for information regarding Christmas trees. Do NOT bag items.

We will NOT accept building materials, fence posts, railroad ties, dirt, sod or stone.

Hours & Weather Conditions

Please see the Compost Site Calendar for hours of operation.  Hours are subject to change and weather permitting.  The Compost Site will be closed if there is snow on the ground.

Pick Up Free Compost Wednesdays & Saturdays

For now, compost and mulch are free for township residents only, so please bring photo identification to the compost site. Double-shredded wood chip mulch is available. You must load mulch yourself, so bring a shovel or pitchfork and containers to load.

Looking for Leaves!

Before you bag and put your leaves to the curb, Upper Providence is always looking for leaves at their compost facility. Leaves should be separated from all branches. Plastic bags will not be accepted. Leaves are an important component for making a nutrient compost because:

  • Trees have extensive root systems, and leaves are the recipient of all nutrients gathered from the soil.
  • Leaves are highly fibrous; they improve soil aeration and composition

Recycling Your Christmas Tree is Easy!

Christmas Tree with red stripe and white text "drop off"After you’ve un-decked your halls, be sure to recycle your Christmas tree into aromatic mulch and nutrient-rich compost! Upper Providence is one of many municipalities that offer eco-friendly options for the more than 30 million Christmas trees that Americans unload every year.

Between the day after Christmas and January 31, bring ornament-free trees to:

  • The Township Offices between the police building and the skate park (during township office hours)
  • The Compost Site at 1094 Longford Road (during listed drop off times Saturdays and Wednesdays - See the calendar for times)
