ADVISORY: Senate and House Dems to Host Hearing on Establishing Statewide Rape Kit Tracking System
HARRISBURG, September 20, 2022 – State Senator Katie Muth, chair of the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Policy Committee, will join state Rep. Morgan Cephas and members of the House and Senate Democratic Policy Committees to host a public hearing on Friday about the need to establish a statewide rape kit tracking system in Pennsylvania.
The hearing will be held on Friday, September 23 at 10 a.m. at the Upper Providence Township Building located at 1286 Black Rock Rd. in Phoenixville. The hearing will also accommodate virtual participation and anyone interested can register in advance by clicking here.
The hearing will feature three panels of expert testimony that will include survivors, members of law enforcement, and advocates from the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) and the Montgomery County Rape Crisis Center.
Senate Bill 860 and House Bill 1848, which have bipartisan support, would create a statewide rape kit tracking system to provide sexual assault survivors with access to timely information and status updates regarding evidence in their cases – such as where it is currently located, when it was submitted, and who to contact for help and more information.
