It is with a heavy heart that we announce the tragic passing of Upper Providence Township (UPT) Director of Public Works, Thomas Broadbelt. Tom had served faithfully as our Director of Public Works since 1999. Just a few weeks ago, Tom celebrated 30 years of esteemed service to UPT where he started in1994. He possessed a versatile skill set, holding a DEP Class A Operator license in both sewer and water treatment as well as a certification in storm water inspection. He was also a member of the Township’s Emergency Management team, having served as an emergency responder during numerous crises. Tom also proudly served in the United States Navy Seabees as an equipment operator. He was an invaluable member of the UPT team, and his dedication, hard work and kind spirit will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Aside from his work with the Township, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and four grandchildren. He also had a lifetime passion for cars and was very instrumental in helping organize UPT’s first annual car show, a tradition that continues to this day and one that in the future will be named in his honor. The Broadbelt family has announced that a Celebration of Life service will be held sometime in the spring. Once a date is confirmed we will send out a notification. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution can be made in his name to the American Heart Association or any local Animal Rescue of your choice.
Tom Broadbelt was a consummate professional in all he did for UPT. In his work with staff and volunteers, he brought humor, empathy and grace to all his duties. He will be sorely missed by everyone who works or volunteers in Upper Providence Township.
