The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has just announced this year's fire prevention week theme: "Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!"
Fire Prevention week is October 6th through the 12th. One of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services mission is to educate our residents on the importance of having working smoke alarms in their homes. Smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom, and on every level of the home including the basement. Resident's should test their smoke alarms at least once a month to ensure that the alarms are working properly. Please replace your smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or when they no longer work. The attached fire safety flyer from NFPA covers Smoke and CO Alarms for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
