The Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors is currently in discussions about the preservation of open space within the township. 

In response to inquiries from concerned residents, the Board is considering adopting a resolution that would authorize the placement of a question on the ballot for an upcoming election.

The proposed question would ask the voters of Upper Providence Township whether they assent to whether they are in favor of the imposition of an additional tax on earned income tax and in real property for the preservation of environmental areas and open space for passive recreational purposes and benefits within the township.

While discussions are still in their early stages, the Board wants residents to know that preserving open space is a top priority for both the Supervisors and the township as a whole. The beauty and natural resources of our community are important assets that must be protected for future generations.

The Board will continue to keep residents informed as this initiative progresses. We encourage all members of our community to stay engaged and provide feedback as we work towards preserving our open spaces.

Twenty students completed the second annual Emergency Services Academy, gaining hands-on experience in firefighting, police work, and EMS. The week-long program built teamwork, leadership, and a true appreciation for the work of first responders.

Join us for some fun programs and events this winter!

Upper Providence, The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and private communities are all part of the winter team when it comes to clearing snowy and icy roads. Plowing begins on designated Snow Emergency Routes to provide safe access for emergency response vehicles and then continues onto main roads.

You can help crews clear roads faster and stay safe by following these simple winter rules and suggestions: 

• Park all vehicles off the street before, during, and after a snowfall.
• Do not throw snow onto the roadway when shoveling, or you may be fined.
• Shovel an area for trash and recycling containers on the curb or your driveway, but not in the street.
• Parents, please watch your children closely, and instruct them that it is extremely dangerous to play or stand near the street when snow plows are working. Do not leave sleds or toys in the street.
• Remove snow from the end of your driveway and in front of your mailbox.
• Shovel snow to the right of the driveway to limit the amount of snow that will be cleared from the roadway back into a clean driveway.

What an unforgettable day at Anderson Farm Park! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy a full day of live music, delicious food trucks, refreshing drinks, and family fun. From John Mullin kicking things off to The 29ers closing out the night, every performance brought incredible energy to the stage.

A special thank you to all of our talented performers, food and beverage vendors, and the many hands that made the event possible. Most of all, thank you to our community for showing up and making this year’s Music Fest such a success.

Elyza is a rescue dog from Turkey! She is the fifth Golden Retriever and fourth rescue dog in her family, where she's lived for the last eight years.  She is gentle, playful and sweet. Life is good for Elyza!

Meet our Pet of the Month Marshmallow! She is a gentle cat that likes to have cuddles first thing in the morning! 

She also likes to make sure all family members are in bed by 10 pm. If not, she will meow and try to “herd” her people.

Moby is a joyful, accredited therapy dog and regularly serves at Ursinus College and Penn Medicine, Radnor. He is led by Janie S., my wife. 

Today marks a major milestone for the Upper Providence Township Police Department as we celebrate 25 years of dedicated service from our office manager, Kim Haines.

Kim joined our department in 2000, bringing with her valuable experience from her time as a dispatcher with Montgomery County. 

Since then, she has become the heart of our operations—quietly and efficiently keeping everything running behind the scenes.

Managing the front office is no small task, and Kim does it with a level of professionalism, care, and expertise that we rely on every day. Whether it's handling logistics, troubleshooting an issue before anyone else even notices, or providing critical support to officers and staff, Kim is always one step ahead.

Her calm presence, quick thinking, and unmatched dedication have made her an essential part of our department’s success. Quite simply, Kim keeps us going. We’re beyond lucky to have her on our team.

Congratulations, Kim, on 25 incredible years. Thank you for your service, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment. Here’s to many more!

John Burdsall is a patrolman in the Upper Providence Township Police Department and has been employed with Upper Providence Township Police since 2017. Prior to working in Upper Providence Township, John was employed with East Lansdowne Borough and Brookhaven Borough.

John holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Scranton and is a graduate of Penncrest High School.  

When John is not working, he enjoys playing golf, hockey and visiting the shore.

Officer Andrew Parkins is a patrolman with the Upper Providence Township Police Department, and has been employed by the Township for 17 years. Previously, he was a patrolman in Conshohocken Borough and a police dispatcher in Lower Providence Township.

He is currently assigned to the Community Engagement Unit, and also serves as an instructor for CPR and de-escalation, and as the departmental mental health liaison. 

Officer Parkins is a graduate of Perkiomen Valley High School, the North Montco Technical Career Center, and the Delaware County Community College Police Academy. 

In his spare time, he is a 25-year volunteer firefighter with Skippack Fire Department, a Deacon at his church, and enjoys raising animals and tending to his small farm with his wife and four children.

Daniel Mulligan is a Patrol Sergeant in the Upper Providence Township Police Department. He has been employed with Upper Providence Township for 16 years. Prior to this he was a patrol officer with Royersford Borough and the City of Coatesville.

In addition to his role as Police Sergeant, Daniel is an adjunct instructor at The Institute for Law Enforcement Education, teaching collision investigation. He is also an adjunct instructor at the University of North Florida's Institute of Police Technology and Management, where he specializes in Digital Photography for Crash Investigation. Daniel is a graduate of the Delaware County Community College Police Academy and attended Penn State University. 

Thanks to all who attended our various Public Works events in the month of May!

First up, we have shots from the Public Works Safety Days Event at the Expo Center on 5/21. Attendees received important safety training for various job duties related to Public Works tasks. Safety is always a top priority!

Next, we have images from the Community Shred it event on 5/17. Protecting your personal information is crucial, and this event allowed community members to securely shred their documents for peace of mind.

Upper Providence Township maintenance vehicles work year round to keep our township roads safe and well maintained and we could use your help! Tree canopies, shrubs and mailboxes at times can be too low to the ground or too close to the street. These pose hazards to our maintenance trucks and your property. 

Please keep trees and shrubs clear of roadways and place mailboxes far enough back to prevent damage. Here are some useful tips:

Street Tree & Shrub Maintenance / Sight Clearances: Trees that overhang streets pose a hazard for maintenance trucks and plows. Street trees should be trimmed to at least 14 feet minimal clearance from the tree canopy to the street. Should your street tree canopy pose a hazard, township maintenance crews may need to trim the tree but can only trim the part of the tree that pozes a hazard. It's always best to contact an arborist to trim your tree properly. Shrubs and vegetation on corner properties also pose a sight hazard for our trucks and other road vehicles. Keep sight clearances of at least 15' from the curb by refraining from planting trees or shrubs in that area.

Mailbox Placement: Position your mailbox 41″ to 45″ high from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or point of mail entry. Place your mailbox 6″ to 8″ back from the curb. If you do not have a raised curb, contact your local postmaster for guidance.

With your help, we can keep our streets and vehicles in good condition!

The Upper Providence Township Public Works Department has recently installed new signage along Bechtel Road to alert drivers of blind corners and improve road safety.

As always, we encourage everyone to slow down and use extra caution when approaching curves and less visible areas of the road. These updates are part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our roads safe for all who travel them.
